The applications of dry and oil pastels will be explored through experimentation with a wide range of pastel densities and colors.  Techniques will focus on layering color to create depth, perspective, and overall composition.  Participants will work with hard and soft pastels on assorted papers.  Exercises will be suggested, and demonstrations provided throughout the week. Subject material may include still life, landscape, and botanicals. This pastel course is designed for all levels of experience. Participants who have pastels and papers should bring them to the class, but basic materials will be provided.
