This workshop will survey the fundamentals of encaustic painting – the ancient technique of using hot wax and pigment.  Explore rudimentary to complex two-dimensional methods while learning to melt, mix, and apply wax to create smooth and textured surfaces.  Incising wax to create intricate drawings and collages, transfers, and stencils will be investigated. Through demonstrations, discussions, and exploration, students will develop a knowledge of this sumptuous material while discovering its endless possibilities for making art.  Materials will be provided.
