This hand-building clay class offers an exploration into pit fired ceramics, a traditional method of firing clay pottery in a pit fire. This ancient method of “baking” clay produces unpredictable designs, spectacular colors, smoky variations and textural imprints. Learn basic hand-building techniques, and how to use the elements of earth, fire, minerals and organic matter to imprint designs onto your ceramics. Fire your pieces in a pit fire along the Barge’s beach.
