SUMMARY:PIT FIRE CERAMICS with Serina Mayer (p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Open to all levels\nAll supplies provided\nParticipants can tour the D’Amico House midweek\n\nThis hand-building clay class offers an exploration into pit fired ceramics\, an ancient method of “baking” clay in a pit fire to produce unpredictable designs\, spectacular colors\, smoky variations and textural imprints. Participants learn basic hand-building techniques to create one or two clay forms conducive to pit firing\, and then learn how elements of earth\, fire\, minerals and organic matter interact to produce unique\, one-of-a-kind effects. Participants load and observe a pit fire on the final day of class\, and pick up their completed pieces the following Monday.  \nThe pacing of this class is guided by the weather\, as clay and drying times shift with the conditions\, and students are encouraged to embrace this natural process and its unpredictable results. \nInstructor: Serina Mayer
