SUMMARY:PAINTING: EXPLORATION OF EXPRESSIONISM with Rosalind Brenner (p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Open to all level\nAll supplies provided\n\nExplore abstract painting as a device for emotional expression\, with an emphasis on spontaneity. Paint intuitively and leave judgments and demands of the intellect behind. \nEach session will introduce a new starting point or technique: letters\, words\, curves\, circles\, strokes\, swatches of color\, glue\, thick paint\, or fluid and alternative painting tools that can be used as a motivation to lead to line\, form\, texture\, and color. Work on paper or canvas with acrylic pigments as you reach into your imagination and allow yourself the freedom to play. Students can work on one painting a day or one for the week. SUMMARY:RELIEF PRINTMAKING & CYANOTYPES with Sam Marks (Full Day)
DESCRIPTION:Open to all levels\nAll supplies provided\n9am – 3pm\, bring your own lunch.\n\nThis full day class will explore a variety of relief printmaking carving techniques and printing. Each morning\, participants will learn and practice a new carving technique\, focusing mainly on mounted linoleum blocks (lino-cut)\, but also exploring soft linoleum blocks and unmounted linoleum. In the afternoons\, participants will delve into the process of printing their carvings\, both by hand and with a press. Building and exposing cyanotypes will be introduced as an optional medium to explore composition and flat shapes\, informing the work with relief printmaking. Midweek participants will tour the D’Amico House to view the collection. A critique will be held on the last day of class. \nInstructor: Sam Marks
