DESCRIPTION:Previous art experience required \nBring your own materials; Max. canvas size 36’’\nEasels\, tables and counter space are available for use in the Studio and/or on the Barge decks \n\nBarge Open Studio is a weeklong self-directed open studio for artists with prior experience or an established practice. Artists work independently in their chosen 2D medium—acrylic\, oil\, watercolor\, tempera\, drawing\, collage\, or mixed media—without instructor guidance. Participants work independently in a communal studio\, and are responsible for keeping the space safe\, focused\, clean\, and productive while exploring and pushing their creative boundaries. Participants must bring all of their own materials\, supplies and tools\, and a Barge representative will be on site for questions and assistance. \nNO INSTRUCTOR

SUMMARY:PIT FIRE CERAMICS with Leslie Harris (a.m.)
DESCRIPTION:Open to all levels\nAll supplies provided\nParticipants can tour the D’Amico House midweek\n\nThis hand-building clay class offers an exploration into pit fired ceramics\, an ancient method of “baking” clay in a pit fire to produce unpredictable designs\, spectacular colors\, smoky variations and textural imprints. Participants learn basic hand-building techniques to create one or two clay forms conducive to pit firing\, and then learn how elements of earth\, fire\, minerals and organic matter interact to produce unique\, one-of-a-kind effects. Participants load and observe a pit fire on the final day of class\, and pick up their completed pieces the following Monday.  \nThe pacing of this class is guided by the weather\, as clay and drying times shift with the conditions\, and students are encouraged to embrace this natural process and its unpredictable results. \nInstructor: Leslie Harris
