DESCRIPTION:CLASSES RUN MONDAY\, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY FOR 3 WEEKS. JULY 10th to 28th. \nThis course introduces the fundamentals of hand building with clay to participants of any experience level. Participants will discover clay processes through pinching\, coiling\, and slab construction to develop skills for making both functional and non-functional pieces. Participants will be encouraged to create pieces that reflect their personal style. Possible projects include vessels\, figures\, and abstractions with organic or hard-edged shapes. Clay\, tools\, and glazes will be provided. Class time and open studio practice time will enable students to create art at their own level and improve skills. DESCRIPTION:The applications of dry and oil pastels will be explored through experimentation with a wide range of pastel densities and colors.  Techniques will focus on layering color to create depth\, perspective\, and overall composition.  Participants will work with hard and soft pastels on assorted papers.  Exercises will be suggested\, and demonstrations provided throughout the week. Subject material may include still life\, landscape\, and botanicals. This pastel course is designed for all levels of experience. SUMMARY:D'Amico House Tour
DESCRIPTION:The D’Amico Studio & Archive are located at the house which dates to 1940\, when Mabel and Victor secured the lot in Lazy Point. They built a modern beach house\, a flat-roofed\, glass box structure with an open interior\, the design of which\, in many ways foreshadowed that of The Art Barge. Facing Gardiner’s Bay and the entrance to Napeague Harbor on the Lazy Point peninsula\, providing a magnificent\, dynamic natural setting and striking vistas. Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. The house features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway\, unique lighting and electrical systems\, sculptural door casings\, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops\, all designed\, created\, and installed by Mabel and Victor. Visitors experience profoundly Mabel and Victor’s creatively prolific lives.

Outdoor easels and tables are available for use on the Barge decks and adjacent beaches.  Instructor demonstrations\, motivational set-ups\, life models and Friday group critiques are included.  Artists are encouraged to supply their own paints\, brushes\, and painting surfaces/canvases.  A storage space is provided.   Extra tubes of paint or pre-stretched canvases can be purchased on the premises. \nInstructor: Christopher Kohan

SUMMARY:D'Amico House Tour
DESCRIPTION:The D’Amico Studio & Archive are located at the house which dates to 1940\, when Mabel and Victor secured the lot in Lazy Point. They built a modern beach house\, a flat-roofed\, glass box structure with an open interior\, the design of which\, in many ways foreshadowed that of The Art Barge. Facing Gardiner’s Bay and the entrance to Napeague Harbor on the Lazy Point peninsula\, providing a magnificent\, dynamic natural setting and striking vistas. Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. The house features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway\, unique lighting and electrical systems\, sculptural door casings\, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops\, all designed\, created\, and installed by Mabel and Victor. Visitors experience profoundly Mabel and Victor’s creatively prolific lives.

DESCRIPTION:Box Art\, also referred to as shadow box art\, memory boxes\, narrative dioramas\, narrative tableaus\, or poetic theaters\, consists of an assemblage of found or collected objects\, photographs and more placed and affixed into shallow boxes of any kind.  These creations can tell stories\, create dreamy landscapes\, evoke a mood\, give a sense of the passage of time\, celebrate a person\, place\, or special occasion\, or express nostalgia.  They can be filled with personal meaning or can include universal symbols.  Participants can draw from sources such as personal treasures\, photographs\, natural objects\, or ‘imaginings’ from their own collections. \nParticipants can bring a box to class if they have one\, but the variety of boxes that can be used and the construction of boxes will be discussed.  Participants can bring materials that have personal value to them\, but a wide variety of objects will be available to use. \nInstructor: Patricia Feiwel
