Facing Gardiner’s Bay and the entrance to Napeague Harbor on the Lazy Point peninsula\, providing a magnificent\, dynamic natural setting and striking vistas. Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. The house features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway\, unique lighting and electrical systems\, sculptural door casings\, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops\, all designed\, created\, and installed by Mabel and Victor. DESCRIPTION:Explore the process and possibilities of image transfer- lifting ink/toner from a color or black and white laser copier printout and then affixing the image to watercolor paper or canvas. The resulting more transparent image can be used as a point of interest on a surface that becomes integrated into a painting using water-based mediums. Participants can use this unique transfer process to create abstract or representational paintings. Participants can also experiment with including elements of drawing\, text\, and collage into their paintings. \nThe Barge will provide all basic materials such as matte medium\, paints\, brushes\, hairdryers\, paper\, and canvases. Participants are expected to come to the first class with a collection of color and/or black and white laser printed copies no larger than 8 ½ by 11 inches in size. DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS RUNS FOR THREE WEEKS ON MONDAY\, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY. \nThis course introduces the fundamentals of hand building with clay to participants of any experience level. Participants will discover clay processes through pinching\, coiling\, and slab construction to develop skills for making both functional and non-functional pieces. Participants will be encouraged to create pieces that reflect their personal style. Possible projects include vessels\, figures\, and abstractions with organic or hard-edged shapes. SUMMARY:DRYPOINT PRINT MAKING with Burt Van Deusen (p.m.)
DESCRIPTION:This class will explore drypoint printmaking using plexiglass plates and water-based inks.  We will be working with water-based inks because some of the inks\, chemicals\, and acids in traditional printmaking can be unhealthy.  Scratching images into a plexiglass surface is easy to do.  Adding tones/values with different sandpaper grades is both effective and economical. While the number of editions may be limited with plexi plates (usually under twenty prints with a half dozen proofs) the safety and versatility of the process will be rewarding.  Bring along your sketchbook filled with drawings and ideas as we will get a plate going in the first session. The Art Barge will supply plexi plates\, tools\, water-based inks and printing paper. \nInstructor: Burt Van Deusen

Facing Gardiner’s Bay and the entrance to Napeague Harbor on the Lazy Point peninsula\, providing a magnificent\, dynamic natural setting and striking vistas. Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. The house features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway\, unique lighting and electrical systems\, sculptural door casings\, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops\, all designed\, created\, and installed by Mabel and Victor. DESCRIPTION:Explore the unique properties of transparent watercolor and all its possibilities of expression. Classes will introduce techniques demonstrated with a variety of brushes\, pigments\, and papers. \nThe location of The Art Barge presents a beautiful beach subject to work from and this class will inspire your personal interpretation of the local view. We will observe the distant horizon as well as a closer focus with still life subjects that are available in the studio. Demonstrations will direct you to explore the creative possibilities as you interpret your personal focus with the watercolor media. Combine watercolors with other water-based pigments such as gouache\, inks\, and acrylics.  Experiment with the techniques of washes\, dry brush and wet-on-wet\, etc. Emphasis will be placed on becoming more confident in the use of watercolor media and papers. The Art Barge will provide all basic materials for beginners\, but it is suggested that more experienced participants bring the watercolor supplies they have. \nInstructor: Quincy Egginton

DESCRIPTION:STUDIO classes provide individual instruction to artists at all levels of experience in a group setting. Instruction will aim at heightening the power of expression of each artist in relation to her/his inherent uniqueness.   Artists may work using any medium or any combination thereof: acrylic\, oil\, watercolor\, tempera\, drawing media\, collage media and assemblage media. Outdoor easels and tables are available for use on the Barge decks and adjacent beaches.  Instructor demonstrations\, motivational set-ups\, life models and Friday group critiques are included.  Artists are encouraged to supply their own paints\, brushes\, and painting surfaces/canvases.  A storage space is provided.  Extra tubes of paint or pre-stretched canvases can be purchased on the premises. \nInstructor: Michael Rosch
