Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. Outdoor easels and tables are available for use on the Barge decks and adjacent beaches.  Instructor demonstrations\, motivational set-ups\, life models and Friday group critiques are included. Artists are encouraged to supply their own paints\, brushes\, and painting surfaces/canvases.  A storage space is provided. DESCRIPTION:This workshop will survey the fundamentals of encaustic painting – the ancient technique of using hot wax and pigment.  Explore rudimentary to complex two-dimensional methods while learning to melt\, mix\, and apply wax to create smooth and textured surfaces.  Incising wax to create intricate drawings and collages\, transfers\, and stencils will be investigated. Inspired by Victor D’Amico’s book\, of the same title\, published in 1954 by the Museum of Modern Art\, it is based on Victor’s conviction that “all people have creative ability and that anyone at any age can enjoy and develop they’re aptitudes in art.” You will be motivated to see in different ways\, to try new things\, and be guided through a process of discovery\, of yourself and the world around you. Discover your talent. Discover the artist within you. Art is for everybody\, and everyone can do this! \nADULT PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED.
