DESCRIPTION:Open to all levels\nAll supplies provided\nParticipants will tour the D’Amico House midweek\n\nDiscover the endless possibilities of 2-D application of papers and other materials to a flat surface. Through dynamic demonstrations/motivations/exercises\, using a variety of paper sources\, gluing mediums\, and mounting surfaces\, participants will explore the potential of line\, shape\, color\, texture and space in the collage medium. DESCRIPTION:Open to all levels\nAll supplies provided\nParticipants will tour the D’Amico House midweek to view Mabel D’Amico’s assemblage artworks\n\nCreate dimensional constructions for wall pieces\, standing sculptures and mobiles using natural and man-made found objects. Through demonstrations/motivations/exercises\, participants will explore the possibilities of using various found object materials for creating their own artworks. Participants can bring materials that have personal value to them for use in their artwork (personal treasures\, photographs\, natural objects\, or ‘imaginings’)\, and a variety will be provided. Battery and electric tool usage will be taught. A critique will be held on the last day of class.  \nInstructor: Chris Kohan

SUMMARY:D'Amico House Tour
DESCRIPTION:When Mabel and Victor D’Amico secured the lot in Lazy Point\, they built a modern beach house\, a flat-roofed\, glass box structure with an open interior\, the design of which\, in many ways foreshadowed that of The Art Barge. Facing Gardiner’s Bay and the entrance to Napeague Harbor on the Lazy Point peninsula\, providing a magnificent\, dynamic natural setting and striking vistas. Inside you will be treated to a diverse collection of original artwork\, furnishings\, and objects\, such as designs collected by the D’Amicos through the Museum of Modern Art and the D’Amicos’ own. The majority of the artworks and numerous objects displayed are by Mabel\, a found object construction artist. Permanent displays and temporary exhibits show the breadth of her creative output\, which includes paintings\, work in glass and wood\, jewelry and clothes. The house features ingenious functional aspects like cabinetry integrated beneath the stairway\, unique lighting and electrical systems\, sculptural door casings\, and hand-glazed glass tile countertops\, all designed\, created\, and installed by Mabel and Victor.
